Early Years Foundation Stage
We have two Early Years classes. Each has their own classroom and they share a well-equipped outdoor area.
In the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the children follow the Development Matters Curriculum. In the first term, this mainly focuses on the children’s Physical Development, Health and Self Care, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and Communication and Language skills. We observe the children throughout their interactions with others and with the environment identifying their levels of well-being through the use of Leuven Scales. We then use this to support each child throughout the year with their development in all areas.
The EYFS classes use a ‘Planning in the Moment’ approach, to ensure each child is engaged and enthusiastic about their learning. We use their interests to teach a variety of subjects including Literacy and Maths. This means that planning is tailored to each child and each child becomes involved in identifying next steps for their own future learning and development. The children explore and learn through play.
Religious Education is a key focus of the EYFS curriculum and the children learn about Gospel Values and develop a relationship with God and Jesus. The children learn a variety of stories centred around the teachings of the Bible and are given many opportunities to explore this further through role play, discussion, art, etc.
